Commerce surplus shrinks

Statistics Canada says the nation’s merchandise commerce surplus fell to $1.5 billion in April as each imports and exports hit file highs, helped larger by rising costs.
The company says the end result in contrast with revised surplus of $2.3 billion in March.
Whole imports in April rose 1.9 per cent to $62.8 billion as imports of client items gained 5.5 per cent with the clothes, footwear and equipment subcategory up 24.2 per cent.
