BAT names finance director Marroco as CEO as Bowles bows out

(Reuters) -British American Tobacco appointed finance director Tadeu Marroco as CEO on Monday, succeeding Jack Bowles who is stepping down after about four years.

Marroco started working for the tobacco firm in Brazil in 1992 and was appointed to the board in 2019.

Bowles, who also joined the board in 2019, has led the maker of Lucky Strike and Dunhill cigarettes through a transformation to focus on growth in new categories such as vape and e-cigarettes.

Beleaguered Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. finally filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Sunday, eight months after speculation about its finances suggested a collapse could be coming and days after reports said it was once again running out of options.

The petition—filed Sunday in a New Jersey federal bankruptcy court, along with 72 affiliates—said the Union, NJ-based chain is trying to sell whatever assets it can while shutting down, but will “pivot away from any store closings” if a buyer emerges to rescue the company.

Stocks teeter after Federal Reserve raises rates by 0.25%

US stocks got smoked on Wednesday after the Federal Reserve raised interest rates by a quarter percentage point amid a fast-moving banking crisis and Chair Jerome Powell suggested rate cuts were not in the picture this year.

The S&P 500 (^GSPC), the Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) and the technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) all dropped by about 1.6%.

Sedition case against ex-Pak Finance Minister for ‘sabotaging negotiations’ with IMF

Islamabad, Feb 13 (IANS) A sedition case has been registered against former Pakistan Finance Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Senator Shaukat Tarin in the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) cybercrime wing for sabotaging the negotiations between Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), media reports said.

The case has been filed by Arshad Mehmood against Tarin under the Pakistan Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016 for his alleged audio leak that had surfaced on the internet, Geo News reported. Sections 124-A and 505 of Pakistan Penal Code have also been included in the FIR.
